I don't say this as a Behringer hater, I say it as a fellow hobbyist. The Behringer pre's, while workable, still take up way too much of the sonic canvass IMO and as you stack tracks you end up with a muddy mess around 750Hz that is pretty much unfixable. The preamps on the ZED14 are heads above the Behringer IMP's and the EQ section is totally usable. So if you need to upgrade then make the move to something that is an all around "better" mixer, like an A&H or Soundcraft or heck, even a Yamaha.Ī ZED14 is only $400 for instance, and sometimes can be found for less. You're going to stay on the same level and you'll possibly regret it. Don't mess around with something that's equal to it or inferior to it. If you're need to upgrade from your Mackie, then upgrade. But, the rest of the board features were pretty much unusable way too noisy, and the EQ section was unusable IMO introducing way too much noise. I t had the IMP's like the MX2004, same power supply, etc. It sure as heck was better than their predecessors of the 90's and with a lot of tweaking I could get a very quiet signal from it that gave me some nice tracks to work with. I had a UB Pro mixer from the same era as the MX2004 and used it for years.
